Jaguar Land Rover Invests $25 Million in Lyft
Jaguar State Rover has a new partner in its quest to bring autonomous vehicles to market place: Lyft.
The British automobile company'south InMotion mobility services concern on Mon announced information technology has invested $25 million in Lyft. Jaguar Land Rover in a news release said the investment "will back up Lyft's expansion and technology plans" and provide InMotion "the opportunity to develop and test its mobility services, including autonomous vehicles."
As part of the bargain, Lyft, which is now the fastest-growing rideshare visitor in the United states of america, will also nab a "fleet of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles," according to the release.
In a statement, InMotion Managing Director Sebastian Peck said the companies plan to work together to develop new and "innovative" mobility solutions to today's transportation issues.
"Personal mobility and smart transportation is evolving," he said. "This new collaborative venture will provide a real-earth platform helping us develop our connected and democratic services."
Lyft'south President and Cofounder John Zimmer echoed those sentiments, saying his company "envisions a future where shared mobility will transform cities and improve people'southward lives."
"This partnership volition help us achieve that aggressive goal," Zimmer said.
News of the bargain comes later Lyft last calendar week announced a partnership with democratic vehicle startup Nutonomy to bring cocky-driving cars to Boston. The companies are planning to test their self-driving vehicle technologies at an industrial park adjacent to the Boston harbor to refine the passenger experience in preparation for a future where Lyft vehicles are driven by computers.
Meanwhile, Lyft also last month teamed upward with Waymo, Google parent visitor Alphabet's self-driving auto unit of measurement, to bring democratic vehicle technology to the masses. That news would otherwise be a run-of-the-factory partnership were information technology not for Waymo'southward very public legal battle with Lyft's chief rival, Uber.
